What would we do without Facebook?

April 29th, 2011 by Concrete Chamber

People think that life in a small town means you know exactly what everyone else is up to. Not true! Just like in the city, many of us have fast-paced, multi-faceted lives that don’t leave a lot of time for hanging over the back fence, chatting with our neighbor.

Instead, a  lot of us in the Concrete area are now using social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Linked-In to promote our businesses and keep in touch with our friends, family and community members. Facebook, more than the others, has had an amazing impact on our ability to communicate with one another. At any given time of the day, you can log on and read about a car accident in Lyman, the weather and road conditions in Birdsview, or the karaoke finals on Main Street in Concrete. Of course you can also see that someone’s child just got toilet-trained, a high-schooler had a falling out with her boyfriend, or that your cousin is eating a brownie for lunch. (Thankfully, some of that can be controlled via your account and privacy settings.)

Setting up an account, creating a profile page and then starting a business page are all quick, easy and free. Give it about 20 minutes a day, and you’ll build a whole network of new and existing customers to communicate with. If you don’t have a business, you’ll find old friends from elementary school or new friends that share your interests and hobbies.

If you aren’t already using Facebook, think about it. 600,000 million people can’t be wrong.

P.S. Thank you, Facebook Friends, for all the feedback on our new website!

A fresh new website

We’re thrilled to have this fresh new website that launched on April 22, 2011. Our thanks to InsideOut Solutions of Sequim, Washington, for their help in designing and creating the site. And special thanks to all our Chamber members who have waited so patiently for the work to be done and the site to go live. We are confident that you’ll agree the wait was worth it. We wanted this site to be a reflection of our unique community, and it is.

But it takes a village to maintain a website, you know, especially one like this that contains so many links, photos and pieces of information. Your help is needed in keeping everything as accurate and up to date as possible.

Please send your comments, feedback and questions to Valerie Stafford, President of the Concrete Chamber (and author of this blog). Your input is needed and appreciated.

Onward.
