front of Superior Building

The Superior Building in Concrete WA has been part of Concrete’s story for more than a century, and an important new chapter is now underway. The Town of Concrete has chosen to keep this historic landmark in public ownership while a new nonprofit foundation forms to help guide its restoration for future generations.

Recent progress photos may look rough, but they reflect meaningful momentum. Public Works has begun early renovation work, including cleaning and power-washing, marking the first visible steps toward stabilizing and restoring the building.

Constructed in the early 1920s, the Superior Building served as administrative offices for the Superior, and later Lone Star, Portland Cement companies. Cement produced here supported major infrastructure projects across Washington State, from roads and bridges to hydropower dams. Though modest in size, the building stands as a lasting reminder of Concrete’s cement-era roots.

After careful discussion, the Town decided to retain ownership of the Superior Building rather than sell it to a private buyer. Keeping the building in public hands ensures its future will be guided by community values, long-term planning, and preservation.

Inside Superior Building

A nonprofit foundation is now being established to support the Town’s work on the Superior Building. The foundation will help pursue grants, coordinate fundraising, partner with preservation organizations, and keep the community informed as restoration progresses, while also inviting public input on future uses.

Located as part of Silo Park, the Superior Building helps frame a space where Concrete’s history and community life meet. Alongside the iconic silos and open park space, the restored building represents the balance between preservation and progress that defines the town.

As the project moves forward, there will be many ways to get involved, including volunteering, supporting events, offering professional skills, or making a financial contribution. Sharing information and helping spread the word is also an important way to support the effort. For more information or to get involved, please contact Valerie Stafford at chamber@concrete-wa.com.
